Impressions - answers

The most common answers from a group of 80 students and teachers were:

  1. Green (connected to hills/ fields/ grass etc) – also moors and mountains were popular while others mentioned hedges, walls and field patterns.
  2. Cottages (often accompanied by adjectives such as ‘old’/ ‘small’/ ‘tidy’/ ‘thatched’) – also country houses and gardens were popular while others mentioned churches, castles, farms etc.
  3. Sheep – followed by cows, and also rabbits, foxes and horses.
  4. Peace and quiet – followed by ‘friendly’ – while others mentioned tidiness, prosperity, silence, laziness, boredom and so on
  5. BSE and foot and mouth equally. Other issues mentioned were fox hunting, pollution and monoculture.
