Culture in ELT

IATEFL Culture in ELT SIG

The role of the CELT SIG

The aim of the CELT SIG will be to act as a focal point for all kinds of activities connected with cultural studies in English language teaching. It will be a forum for an exchange of skills, knowledge and ideas among teachers of English in Poland through networking and encouraging personal and institutional contacts. I hope that successful communication will help SIG members overcome some of the difficulties they often encounter in their professional life and complain about, e.g. a lack of sufficient information on various forthcoming events and regional initiatives. Hopefully the SIG will create both space and opportunity for a wide range of activities that will involve teachers from all types of schools. I also hope that SIG members will create some exciting new materials for classrooms that will be interesting both for learners and teachers. We live in an era of revolutionary global changes in both language and culture. Our mission as teachers is to face the challenge and help our learners to develop cultural skills and intercultural awareness that will enable them to cope with the new multilingual and multicultural world.
