  • time waits for no man - time treats everybody equally and does not stop moving
  • time flies - times flows very quickly, much quicker than we’d like it to
  • time is money - time is very precious
  • (a time / an event) of a lifetime - the best time / event that has happened so far in one’s life
  • one of those days - a day full of problems
  • keep regular hours - go to bed and get up very regularly, usually at the same times
  • not in a month of Sundays - never
  • put years on somebody - make somebody look much older than their age
  • pass the time of day with someone - have a short friendly conversation with them
  • give somebody a hard time - make things difficult or unpleasant for somebody
  • time and again - on a number of occasions
  • it’s only a question of time- it is unavoidable
  • all in a day’s work - nothing special, part of the normal routine
  • an hourglass figure - a woman’s figure with a narrow waist in comparison with her chest and hips
  • all in good time - be patient it will happen eventually

  • at an unearthly hour - either very late or very early when the time is not convenient
  • time bomb - a situation that is likely to become a very serious problem or something that will have a major effect at a later date
  • last-minute - happening just before something else at the last time that it can possibly be done
  • daylight robbery - something costs more than it should
  • time-honoured principle - one that has been used and respected for a long time
  • for weeks on end (rabbit) - for a very long time
  • for the time being - until it becomes possible to do something else
  • be pressed for time - be obliged to hurry
  • high time - something should happen soon

  • in the good old days - in the past when life was better than in the present
  • burn the midnight oil - work or study until late at night
  • this very minute - immediately
  • waste no time doing something - do something very fast
  • “There’s no time like the present” - it’s best to act quickly, “now” is always the best time to act
  • Sunday best - the best clothes that somebody has
  • seen better days - said about things which are old or in bad repair
  • work against time - do things extremely fast
  • in my hour of need - when I urgently needed help
  • in no time at all - very quickly, instantly
  • take one’s time - not hurry, do things at a leisurely pace
  • time flies - time passes very quickly
  • call it a day - stop doing something
  • that’ll be the day - it’s extremely unlikely
  • carry the day - win the battle, game, etc, to have a victory
  • bide one’s time - wait until the right moment to do something
