UK Food Interviews

During the summer school we videoed a number of interviews with UK natives on their opinions of British and Polish food. Here we present four of them - two in audio format and two as written transcripts owing to technical difficulties in using the recordings. The interviews were conducted by Małgorzata Wojcieszuk.

Audio interviews with

·         Mike Solly (Manager ELT Network Services - BC London) - with audio version + written transcript

·         Peter Leese (Lecturer at the Jagiellonian University) - with audio version + written transcript

Written transcripts of interviews with two generations of the Fairclough family to show how attitudes to food change through time, with a few comments from James (aged 9) to show a third generation.

A further interview with Peter Whiley on Food and the Senses (conducted by Anna Gorczyńska and Arianna Kitzinger) complements those here very well.

The questions

  • What are your impressions of Polish food?
  • What makes you decide what [you buy] and where you buy your food?
  • How do you organise ‘food’ in your household?
  • What differences are there from your parents and grandparents?
  • In what ways does what and how you eat reflect your sense of identity?
  • What is the future of food and eating in the UK?

NOTE: These are authentic ‘live’ interviews therefore you will find some small slips of language
