Welsh Identity |

Prepared by Ida Wrzesień from Kolegium Karkonoskie in Jelenia Góra who took part in the "Neighbours in the EU" Project which involved an ethnographic study trip to Wales. Its aim was to gather some ethnographic materials for the classroom use. For more material on Wales click here.
The following materials were gathered during a
summer ethnographic study tour of Wales. The aim was to interview people about
what Welshness or Welsh identity is. Wales as a part of the United Kingdom has
been a member of the EU since 1973; however, only recently it has gained some
more political independence within the UK as a result of the devolution. Many of the countries applying for the EU membership
were concerned about losing their national identity, i.e. language, tradition
and individuality and the following interviews attempt to investigate the issue
on the example of Wales. You can learn more about Wales in the Basic Facts and
Figures Section or you may try out the lesson prepared for Teacher Training
College students. Click on a picture to read and listen to the interview (*.wma file)
