Think about possible answers to the questions below and share your opinions with your partner.

  1. What does Europe mean to you?
  2. What do “old” and “new” Europe mean to you?

The accession of new member states to the EU on 1st May 2004 has provoked Europe-wide discussion amongst “old” and “new” Europeans. For both groups the enlargement of the EU was supposed to be a turning point, raising hopes and expectations.

We have compared their opinions and thoughts with official views of the respective countries’ governments through different on-line newspapers and magazines, articles and cartoons. They are presented here in the form of interviews and a webquest.
